What a year it’s been! It’s been a year of lots of life changes that I never would have seen coming. But each day, I am so grateful for what those changes have taught me and where I am today because of them. Some people set New Year’s resolutions, but for me personally, I choose to set New Year’s Goals. One of those goals is always to take better care of my body through eating more whole foods and moving my body more. This Raspberry Green Tea Smoothie will help you at least with one goal you may have…getting an extra dose of nutritious and vitamin-rich fruits and antioxidants. Get ready to slurp it up this year!
So back to talk on resolutions vs goals. I’ve talked about this in one of my previous emails to my subscribers, but wanted to brush on the topic again since everyone is determining how they’re going to better their year in 2017. Like I said, I make goals for the year instead of resolutions because, for me, resolutions make me feel like I can’t begin new if I make a mistake or don’t stick to that particular plan for the year. I feel like I’ve failed. With goals, I know in my mind that if I mess up, the next day is a brand new day for getting back on track. It’s a much more freeing way to go about the year.
I need to write my goals down for continuous motivation. I need to tangibly see what I’ve determined to do, and have something to refer back to and keep myself in check. This year, I’ve made a few goals for myself, things I want to improve on in my life as I move on.
The first goal I’ve set for myself is to limit myself to healthy portions when eating. Something I’ve noticed this year, unfortunately, is that my metabolism is slowing down…whaaaa! So what I used to be able to eat doesn’t do so well with my body anymore. Also, getting married and having a man in the house somehow makes me want to eat more. Anyone else deal with this? It’s like they’re always asking if you want to eat snacks with them, or if you want a second serving. Gotta love the hubby, but sometimes it’s hard to stay on track with eating well with him around. So, to combat this, I’ve determined to lovingly tell him no. “Sorry, babes…I’m not hungry but I’ll gladly fix you something.” Or “No, one serving is enough for me, thanks love.” I used to tell myself my bad food decisions were his fault. But I’ve learned to tell myself that my body is my own, and I have power to make healthy decisions and listen to myself.
Second goal. Grow in my blogging skills. I’ve got such huge ambitions for Steel & Chiffon, and sometimes I find myself getting overwhelmed. But like all goals, reaching them means taking baby steps. I’m so grateful for all of you guys and your support as I began this dream of mine, and to be honest, I probably get more out of writing this blog than you guys do reading it. I hope not, but just to say that I’ve had so much fun with this this year.
Lastly, I want to strive this year to grow in my confidence as a nurse. Working at a Pediatric office has been way more difficult than I once thought. But I have learned so much and have grown to love what I do at my day job. Even though sometimes I feel like I was born to do blogging full time, right now I’m happy with working as a nurse and the influence I have with parents and children each day. I’m grateful for the skills I’m learning, and the people I work with every day.
So this year, consider turning your resolutions into goals. Write them down, and refer back to them as often as needed to keep yourself motivated. Share your goals with friends so that you have a community of others to motivate you. And if you break one of them? Wake up the next day and begin again. Don’t live this year in regret or bondage to a resolution. Be free and balanced with goals for living better and loving life.
